WECHIAU TRADITIONAL COUNCIL CONDEMNS COMMUNAL VIOLENCE, CALLS FOR PEACE


The Wechiau Traditional Council has condemned the recent communal violence between the Kandeu and Lassia-Toulu communities, which has resulted in the loss of lives.


In a press statement dated 19th March, 2026, and signed by Naa Imori Nandong Gomah II, President of the Council, described the incident as senseless and expressed deep sorrow over the tragic events. It extended heartfelt condolences to families affected by the violence.


The Council urged all persons within the traditional area who are not directly linked to chieftaincy or land ownership matters to refrain from involving themselves in issues related to the conflict.


According to the statement, such restraint is necessary to help restore calm, promote harmony, and maintain unity across the area.


The Traditional Council further called on all parties involved in the conflict to cease hostilities, lay down their arms, and support ongoing reconciliation efforts.


It emphasized the need for collective commitment to peace, noting that lasting stability can only be achieved through dialogue and cooperation.
