More than two hundred households in Taanmaara, a farming community located within the Dabo Electoral Area in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region, are grappling with a severe water shortage due to an aging borehole that has become increasingly unreliable. Residents report that the overused borehole, which is now overaged, is failing to meet their daily water needs, thereby impacting their economic and social well-being.

In an interview with Info Radio, Madam Alhassan Akua expressed her frustration, highlighting the poor water flow from the borehole that has intensified their daily hardships. "The water source is no longer dependable, and it worsens our stress as we struggle to meet basic needs," she lamented.

Local residents, including Ngmene Noel, Ngmene Bondaana, and Yelbong Hannah, indicated that the situation is severely affecting their livelihoods, especially for those involved in small-scale businesses and agriculture. Meanwhile, Dari Yaasantuah, a differently-abled woman, shared a distressing account of injuring herself while searching for water, fracturing her toe in the process.

Alhassan Dabuota confirmed that all affected households rely on this single borehole, emphasizing the social implications of the crisis. He called on authorities to address the issue promptly to prevent further hardship for the community.

The water shortage in Taanmaara underscores the urgent need for infrastructure upgrades and sustainable solutions to ensure reliable access to clean water for its residents.
