Mr Tahiru Issahaku Moomin, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Wa, has called on Assembly Members to consider their work as a sacrificial task and serve their communities, municipality and country diligently to promote development.
He encouraged them to serve the people they represent and the country at the Local Government Level in a way that the people appreciate their true participation in the decision-making process and governance of the nation.
Mr Moomin made this statement during the inauguration of the Wa Municipal Assembly, which will oversee the business of the Assembly for the next four years.
The Assembly consists of 47 members, including 31 elected members, 14 appointees, the Member of Parliament and the MCE.
Mr Moomin's vision for the Wa Municipal Assembly is to create an "International standard Municipality" where people can enjoy the full benefits of modernization in a peaceful, reliable and sustainable manner.
Although the Municipality has made significant progress in development in areas like Education, Healthcare, Infrastructure development, Agriculture and Environmental sustainability, there is still much work to be done.
Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, the Upper West Regional Minister, stated that the inauguration of the Assemblies signifies another milestone in deepening the decentralized governance system in the country, as stipulated in the 1992 Constitution.
