Vice President commends 4Ward Development for intervention in the water sector

Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

The Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has commended the 4Ward Development West Africa, a private company in the water sector and its partners for complementing the government’s efforts in making potable water accessible to people in the country.

He indicated that the government is committed to improving the clean water supply to the people with an investment of about US$740 million to provide potable water to the people in the country.

The intervention, the Vice President said, had led to a remarkable increase in access to potable water in the country.

Dr. Bawumia gave the commendation at Tuna in the Savannah Region during a ceremony to commission a NUMA water facility constructed by the 4Ward Development West Africa.

The initiative, in partnership with the USAID, Water4, Global Communities, and Helmsley Trust of USA was under the “Enhancing WASH” project.

The Vice President acknowledged the need for more efforts to be put in place to meet the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) on water and sanitation by 2030 hence the need for private sector support such as the intervention of the 4Ward Development West Africa.

The Vice President also assured the people of Tuna that plans are in advance to upgrade the clinic at the community to a policlinic status by the end of 2023.

He also assured the people of the government’s resolve to extend electricity to 52 communities in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba (STK) District, provision a vehicle to police in Tuna, and rehabilitation of the Sawla - Wa trunk road among other requests.

Dr. Bawumia gave the assurance in response to the request by the Chief of Tuna, Tunawura Daniel Safo Mahama Amantana, to support the community to be on the path of development.

The Tunawura had appealed to the Vice President to help upgrade the single-phase electricity connection at the community to a four-phase line to enable them to operate some particular machines in the community including a mill.

He also appealed for a vehicle for the police in Tuna, an extension of electricity to other communities in the area, provision of staff accommodation and fence wall for the Tuna Senior High School, and rehabilitation of the Sawla-Wa trunk road which was in a deplorable state.

The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was the guest of Honour at the ceremony. He was accompanied by ministers and Members of Parliaments including the Minister of the Interior, Mr Ambrose Dery.
