UWR: Center for National Culture passed out 22 weaving apprentices

The Upper West Center for National Culture has passed out 22 female weaving apprentices.

According to the Director of the Center for National Culture, Mr Yahaya Jamail, the skills acquisition will offer the apprentices the opportunity to establish their own businesses.

In an interview with Info Radio in Wa during the Upper West Cultural Week celebration to graduate the apprentices, Mr Jamail noted that graduation forms part of the CNC initiatives to lessen poverty and reduce the unemployment rate in the region.

According to him, in order to sustain culture, there should be jobs to keep the youth from travelling to different places in search of jobs. He intimated that people are likely to lose their culture when they leave their homes.

“The CNC brought the skills training to help the young girls because they are forthcoming. The boys are not forthcoming for the training,” he stated.

The Wa Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Issahaku Tahiru Moomin urged the grandaunts to make good use of the skills they have acquired.
