The Upper West branch of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has launched its campaign ahead of the December general elections with a health walk over the weekend.
Addressing supporters of the party after a walk through some principal streets of the Wa Municipality, Abdul Nasir Saani, the Upper West Regional Chairman of the NDC, called on members of the party to campaign so hard to ensure a resounding victory for the flagbearer John Dramani Mahama and all the eleven parliamentary candidates of the party in the region.
He stated that the NDC, when in power, would reward party members with government school uniform sewing contracts and recruitment into security services.
“Our agenda 11 over 11 begins today. We are assuring all the young men and women here today that when you vote on December 7, and John Mahama and all the 11 MPs win, the first thing we will do for you is to take the school uniform contracts for the tailors here.
“We have young people who want to enter the security agencies; we will ensure you have your quota. We have fitters and carpenters here; we will buy start-up tools for all of you to work,” Mr Saani added.
Malik Basintale, the Deputy National Communication Officer of the NDC, criticized Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He questioned what the NPP would campaign on now that the NDC's flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has been cleared by the Special Prosecutor of bribery allegations in the Airbus Scandal.
“When I was coming to the Upper West, I kept asking myself how the campaign of the steer man is doing by now because the only campaign the steer man had was based on lies and attempting to pull John Mahama into their class of corruption. But just yesterday, the Special Prosecutor said, his Excellency John Dramani Mahama is a free man. He’s as clean as cow milk.”
He also expressed his readiness to debate Dr Bawumia on the economy ahead of the elections.
Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, the Member of Parliament for Tamale South and former Minority Leader, officially launched the campaign. He mentioned that the Upper West Region has always voted in favor of the NDC but lost three constituencies in the region.

He appealed to the constituents to honor the NDC by voting massively for the party in the December 7 elections. He also highlighted that the establishment of the University for Development Studies (UDS), now SD-Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies, has brought significant development to the region. He added that the next NDC government will fixed the Wa to Techiman road.
He said “I drove on that porous bad road from Sawla-Tuna to Wa. They [NPP] say year of roads, where is Wa and Upper West Region share of the roads? When John Dramani Mahama comes we would fix the road from Techiman through Boloi-Bamboi to Sawla to Wa in the Upper West Region. We will do that for the people of the Upper West Region.”
