TUTAG members at DHLTU declare indefinite strike over unpaid allowances, poor teaching conditions

Members of the Technical University Teachers' Association of Ghana (TUTAG) at Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University (DHLTU) have declared an indefinite strike action, effective today, April 7, 2025.

The decision, reached at an emergency meeting on Friday, April 4, comes amid growing frustrations over unpaid allowances and deteriorating teaching conditions on campus.

In a statement signed by Mr. Samadu Kamwine, the Chairman of the DHLTU TUTAG branch, the association cited several unmet commitments by university management, including the failure to pay two months of Online Teaching Support Allowance (OTSA) arrears that were promised on March 13, 2025.

TUTAG is also demanding:

  • A clear schedule for the payment of 32 months of outstanding OTSA arrears,

  • Payment of the Internally Generated Fund (IGF) component of the End of Service Benefit (ESB) owed to retired members,

  • Immediate payment of OTSA for the current year covering January to March 2025.

In addition to financial concerns, the union is calling for urgent improvements in teaching infrastructure. These include:

  • Provision of projectors and essential Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs) in lecture theatres,

  • Replacement of broken-down computers at the university’s Computer Laboratory,

  • Supply of extra sewing machines for the Fashion Design Studio.

“We wish to reiterate that it is our concerted position that until the University Management meets these demands, our industrial action remains in full force,” the statement reads.

The indefinite strike is expected to significantly disrupt academic activities on campus. Management of DHLTU is yet to publicly respond to the concerns raised by TUTAG.
