Mr Chakurah explained that internet addiction often leads people to share a lot of information about themselves, which is a situation where a person cannot go a few minutes without visiting social media or any cyberspace.

He added that addiction and information sharing are the enablers of cyberbullying both on the part of perpetrators and victims.

He indicated that internet addiction causes social disconnect among addicts as it leads to the severing of social relationships as people do not make time to interact with friends and even family.

He added that it leads to financial liquidation, poor academic performance among students, low productivity and career promotion among the working class, as well as health implications.

Mr Chakurah advised people to turn their addiction into meaningful learning by subscribing to online learning platforms to acquire useful skills that promote their development.

He also admonished parents to set parental controls on their children’s smart devices to regulate the amount of time they spent on them, and the adult class to utilize the digital well-being controls.
