Mr. Mahama Salifu, the Director of Agriculture for the Sissala East Municipality, has announced that the municipality has begun receiving fertilizer from the Phase Two (2) of the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) program.
In an interview with Info Radio on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, he highlighted that a large number of farmers in the Municipality have already registered for the program.
“9,189 farmers have registered for the program and the numbers keep increasing daily. So this figure I mentioned to you is the last figure I saw in the system last night.”
He noted that out of the total of 9,189 registered farmers, 4,504 have completed the registration process, while 4,144 are yet to complete the process.
He also mentioned that some farmers faced challenges in completing the registration process due to unfamiliarity with the registration software.
Mr Salifu however, added that Agromite Limited, the Aggregator, has engaged an IT company to assist these farmers in completing the process to ensure they qualify for the fertilizer.
Some farmers in an earlier conversation with Info Radio expressed concerns regarding the timing of the input distribution.
However, Mr. Salifu observed that certain farmers in the municipality are nearing the period for fertilizer application, given the specific sowing dates of their crops.
Additionally, he noted that the majority of farmers are prioritizing fertilizer requests over other services offered through the program, such as seeds and tractor services.
He urged farmers who have benefited from the program to ensure they repay their debts on time to guarantee its continuity.
