Residents of Konkuo Calls for Improved Water Distribution System

Residents of Konkuo, a suburb of Jirapa in the Jirapa Municipality, have raised concerns over inadequate access to potable water in the community.

Speaking to Info Radio, several women in the community said residents depend on only two boreholes to serve the entire population. They noted that the limited water sources have resulted in long queues and daily struggles to secure water for domestic use.

The situation is further compounded by the low output from the boreholes, which reduces the volume of water available and increases pressure on existing facilities.

Residents are therefore calling on authorities to ensure that future boreholes are properly sited and constructed to guarantee a consistent and reliable water supply.

The Assemblyman for Konkuo, Douglas Goolee, confirmed the concerns, acknowledging that the community is facing significant challenges due to the inadequate water system.

He revealed that an attempt was made to introduce a pay-before-service model as a means of managing and sustaining water distribution. However, the proposal was rejected by residents, who argued that access to water should not be restricted by payment systems.

They are instead urging authorities to focus on improving infrastructure and ensuring equitable distribution of water across the community.
