The residents of Gongomuni Penpeeni, a community in the Nadowli-Kaleo District, are in distress over the chronic lack of adequate water supply, which they say is severely impacting their daily lives and overall well-being.
According to the residents, the community relies on a single borehole, which is not only inadequate for the growing population but also located miles away from their homes.
This situation forces many to travel long distances daily just to fetch water, leading to disruptions in their social and economic activities.
Speaking to Info Radio, some residents lamented the difficulties they face due to the water crisis. They explained that the shortage has significantly affected local businesses and agricultural activities, as they struggle to get enough water for farming and other essential needs.
The impact on education has also been a major concern, as children in the community are often forced to skip school to help their families fetch water. Parents worry that the lack of accessible water is not only affecting their children’s education but also their overall well-being.
"Our children miss school frequently just to fetch water for the household. This is not fair to them. The government and other organizations must intervene to solve this issue once and for all," a frustrated resident stated.
The community is making a desperate appeal to the government, relevant agencies, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to provide sustainable solutions to their water crisis.
They believe that additional boreholes, improved water infrastructure, or alternative water sources could alleviate their suffering and improve their standard of living.
