Residents of Balazu in the Wa East District have lamented over the difficulty in accessing primary healthcare due to distance coupled with deplorable state of roads to the health facilities.
They said the situation has brought a lot of challenges to them in terms getting healthcare services, especially pregnant women.
In an interview with Info Radio at the community, Madam Rebecca Vitus said the road to the nearest health facility at Nahaa community is very bad that even motorbikes or tricycles cannot move with ease.
She lamented that expectant mothers suffer hell on earth during labour when they have to be commuted at the heat of labour through the road.
She recounted that they have recorded a number of cases where expectant mothers had to deliver midway to the health facility where they are expected to receive skilled delivery.
She added that pregnant women also find it difficult attending antenatal care services because of the bad nature of the road and distance.
Mr. Abraham Ereboma, also a resident, indicated that his wife some time ago had to deliver on the way because they do not have health facility in their community.
He therefore appeals to benevolent organizations and government to provide them with facility in order for them to access primary healthcare with ease.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Goal 3 enjoins member states to 'Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages'.
