As Ghana observes May Day today, the Wa Municipal Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Private Schools, Mr. Mumuni Sulemana, has issued a compelling appeal to the government. In a statement issued and copied to Info Radio, He calls for a reevaluation of the perception of private educational institutions, urging authorities to recognize private schools as vital partners in the nation’s development rather than merely profit-driven ventures.

Private schools have long been instrumental in expanding access to quality education across Ghana, often operating under challenging circumstances. Despite their unwavering commitment to delivering high standards of education to Ghanaian children, their efforts frequently go unnoticed and unrecognized.

Mr. Sulemana highlighted the growing financial pressures faced by private schools, particularly due to increasing taxes. These burdens according him, threaten the sustainability of many institutions and jeopardize the quality of education they strive to provide. He emphasized that such policies could undermine efforts to build a more inclusive and robust educational system.

He called on the government to reconsider existing tax policies affecting private schools, acknowledging their essential role in supporting the nation’s educational development. "Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive education system for Ghana," he stated.

The appeal underscores the need for collaboration and mutual recognition between the government and private educational providers to ensure a brighter future for Ghana’s youth.
