President Mahama Commends Upper West Region for Overwhelming Support in 2024 Elections

President John Dramani Mahama has expressed gratitude to the people of the Upper West Region for their unwavering support during the 2024 general elections.

Addressing a large crowd as part of his national “Thank You” tour, President Mahama acknowledged the region’s vital role in securing a decisive victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), both at the presidential and parliamentary levels.

With a heart "full of gratitude," Mahama praised the Upper West Region as a "land of peace, pride, and perseverance."

He thanked the region for giving the NDC all 11 parliamentary seats available—an achievement he described as "extraordinary" and instrumental in the party’s unprecedented win in Parliament.

“I want to thank you for your support in the 2024 general elections. Your support was extraordinary. You stood firm, you spoke clearly, and you chose hope over despair, unity over division, and development over stagnation,” he said.

Mahama attributed the NDC’s historic acquisition of 183 parliamentary seats—the highest ever in the Fourth Republic—to regions like the Upper West. He noted that, along with the support of four independent MPs, the NDC now holds more than two-thirds of Parliament, enabling the party to govern with a strong legislative backing.

In his address, Mahama honoured the region’s traditional authorities for their wisdom and leadership, as well as the youth and women whose grassroots efforts sustained the party’s campaign.

“I salute our women who led the door-to-door campaigns, organized community engagements, and held this movement together with grace and power,” Mahama noted.

He also reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to national transformation, with a particular focus on historically marginalized regions like the Upper West. Referring to the party's 2024 manifesto, he pledged transformational development and emphasized the need to correct decades of underdevelopment in the region.

Turning to governance and economic matters, President Mahama highlighted efforts made by his administration since assuming office. He revealed that the government has prioritized economic stabilization and reported early signs of progress.

“Our efforts to stabilize the economy have begun to yield results. It is evident in the improved performance of our local currency and also a gradual reduction of prices of goods and services in the market,” he stated.

He commended the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana for their cooperation in implementing economic recovery measures.
