President Akufo-Addo announces dates of reopening of schools

President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo has announced that both public and private basic schools including Kindergarten, Primary and Junior High Schools will resume from 15th January, 2021.

The president has announced this during his Update No 21 on Measures Taken Against the Spread of Coronavirus on Sunday, January 3, 2021.

He has also announced that SHS 1 students will resume on 10th March, 2021 while SHS 2 and SHS 3 will return on 18th January, 2021.

Meanwhile, the president has announced the cancellation of the double track system for SHS 1 and SHS 3.

He said the expansion of infrastructure at the various senior high schools, over the last three years, has brought the nation to this favorable situation.

He has however said the double track system will still be applicable to SHS 2 students in schools that are employing it.

The president has said that students in universities and other tertiary institutions are to be in school from Saturday, January 9, 2020. He said all schools will be fumigated prior to the reopening.

He said government will provide all coronavirus safety personal protective equipment to ensure the safety of all students and staffs.

The president has also said government will from Monday, January 5, 2021 begin public education and sensitization for students, parents and guardians on further modalities associated with the reopening of schools.

All Ghanaian public and private schools at all levels were closed in March 2020 when the coronavirus pandemic hit the country.
