Residents of Polee in the Tanina Electoral Area are expressing concerns over the community’s continued lack of electricity, which they say is severely impacting their daily lives, economic prospects, and overall well-being.
In an interview with Info Radio, community members highlighted the challenges posed by the absence of electricity, noting that it hampers their ability to conduct business, affects productivity, and limits opportunities for growth.
They believe that access to electricity would significantly enhance livelihoods by enabling small businesses to thrive and improving the quality of life for residents.
The residents stressed that electrification would bring multiple benefits, including improved security, expanded economic activities, better access to education, and enhanced healthcare services. They believe these changes would collectively contribute to the sustainable development of the community.
Mr. Saaka Iddrisu, a resident, shared that the situation is particularly disheartening for the youth. “Young people are discouraged,” he said. “Many of them have to travel to nearby communities just to charge their phones. It’s not only inconvenient but also costly.”
Residents also pointed to the poor network connectivity in the area, which, combined with the lack of electricity, makes communication extremely difficult. This hinders access to timely information and further isolates the community.
The people of Polee are appealing to their Member of Parliament and the Wa West District Assembly to urgently prioritize connecting the community to the national electricity grid, describing it as a vital step toward progress and inclusion.
