The Head of Quality Control, Mr. Ubeidalah Kutia Saeed, has assured Ghanaians that the successful implementation of the Cylinder Recirculation policy in the country will help reduce or prevent the incidents of fire explosions caused by gas cylinders.
“The Cylinder Recirculation module has in it a mechanism to address safety. Nobody will own a cylinder, so because of that we have systems in place to check the worthiness or safety wise of the cylinder.”
“Anytime an empty cylinder goes for refilling, all these safety checks and expiry will be checked to see that the cylinder is fit for purpose if not it will be withdrawn from the pool and new cylinders replaced to ensure safety,” he added.
He said through the cylinder recirculation policy, the quality of cylinders will be checked to ensure that they are of quality before filling them with gas.
Mr. Saeed gave the assurance in Wa during a town hall meeting with stakeholders and groups in the region on the cylinder recirculation policy.
He added that the price of the gas would also be controlled in the implementation of the policy to help make gas affordable.
“I want to assure a lot of Ghanaians that the new policy is much safer and will also bring LPG closer to you and that will make it more sufficient in using LPG as a cooking choice.”
Mr. Saeed explained that the policy is to help increase the number of people in the country using gas to reduce the rate of environmental degradation through the use of charcoal for cooking.
The Paramount Chief of Pulima Traditional Area in the Sissala West District, Kuoro Osman Diewia Nankpa III, commended the government for introducing the policy which he said will reduce the reliance on fuel wood and charcoal.
“Let me commend government especially the NPA for choosing this approach to find solution to the everyday gas explosion awash in the media. It is also good news for those of us who are advocates in trying to conserve our environment.”
The Upper West Regional Minister, Mr. Stephen Yakubu, said it is important that the actual quantity of gas is sold to people in the cylinder.
