The Assembly Member for Nator West electoral area, Mr. Patrick Bambukor, has stated that there is no community in his electoral area connected to the national electricity grid.
This, he said, in response to calls by the people of Kaabogu, a community in the Nator West Electoral Area, to have electricity extended to their community.
Mr. Patrick Bambukor, the Nator West Assembly Member, decried the challenges the community has faced in their quest to obtain electricity, to no avail.
“Since the time Katherine Lankono was the DCE, I followed up on several occasions and at one point they brought people to come and do feasibility studies, but it ended without any positive results”, he said.
While speaking on Info Radio’s Ti Zine Yiri Yela program, Hon Bambukor said there is a glimmer of hope for the Nator West electoral area.
“I was asked by the authorities to compile all the names of communities and the number of houses. This is the data needed for a rural electrification project. I pray that it gets done very soon,” he added.
The assembly member also admitted that there are challenges regarding access to potable water, which he said require strenuous measures to resolve. “In some of the communities, the boreholes have broken down, but a few weeks ago, we compiled the list of all broken-down boreholes”.
He further indicated that some communities need additional boreholes due to their populations outstripping the available boreholes.
“We have been offered another borehole to drill, but we will send that one to Nator Longborizu because their population is over five hundred (500), but with a single borehole," he stressed.
Conversely, residents of Kaabogu doubt the government's readiness to ameliorate their plight. They lament that most of their current problems keep compounding after every election cycle, despite the numerous assurances by politicians.
The representative of the Kaabogu chief, Mr. Francis Ere, who spoke to Info Radio during a community visit, was emphatic that they have lost confidence in the government.
“I’ve been actively involved in politics since 1992, and any time they promise us, they don’t fulfil. I don’t know whether we are truly considered part of this district or not?” he queried.
Hon. Patrick Bambukor has appealed to the Nadowli/Kaleo district assembly, the Rt Hon Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, NGO, and philanthropists to assist the electoral area in bridging the development gap.
