NIC Call on Motorists to Insure their Vehicles

The Upper West Regional Manager of the National Insurance Commission (NIC), Mr Frederick Boakye-Yiadom, has called on motorists to insure their vehicles before using them on the road.

According to him, before a motorbike or a vehicle can be on the road they have to be insured.

Mr Boakye-Yiadom made the call in an interview with Info Radio in Wa during an exercise to enforce compliance of drivers and vehicle owners to the regulation on insurance.

He said insurance packages are compulsory in Ghana and that refusal of the vehicle owner to insure their machines is against the law.

The NIC is currently on their periodic operations to ensure that every vehicle on the road is insured.

Mr Frederick also urged those who already have an active insurance to continue renewing their insurance in order not to fall foul of the law.

“May be now the focus is on the vehicle but very soon we will be targeting the tricycles, the motorbikes. So those who don’t have is an opportunity for them to start buying their insurances before we come to the field for enforcement”, he added.

He noted that within the two days operations they were able to arrest over 66 vehicles.

The Regional Manager of NIC also noted that the operation is to create awareness and to educate the general public on the reasons for insuring their vehicles.

“We are doing enforcement on insurance and also using that as an opportunity to also sensitized motorists and passengers and drivers on insurance”, Boakye-Yiadom indicated.
