NDC members Disgruntled with Party Leadership over Scholarships for NPP Gurus

Several members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have expressed disappointment in the erstwhile NDC government for giving out scholarships to the opposition New Patriotic Party(NPP) members at the expense of its members. Some of the NDC members have vowed not to campaign in 2020 as nothing shows the action will not be repeated. Their anger follows an audit report of the Auditor-General on the administration of scholarships by GETFund between 2012 and 2018. It revealed that several allegedly undeserving people were given the opportunity at the expense of those 'most deserving.' Some of the names include now Education Minister Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, Procurement Minister and Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament and the Executive Secretary of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), Prince Hamidu Armah who are NPP members. The first reaction came from Commandante Akaabitono, who is an activist of the NDC. His post triggered a string of angry outbursts from NDC members. “So the NDC gave GETFUND scholarships to rich NPP MPs to study abroad? And NDC is now calling we-the-‘foolish’ foot soldiers to come and campaign to ‘rescue’ Ghana? Is it because we wash our faces upside down?? That is what I cannot just understand!” he wrote. Other comments read: “I wasted my time campaigning for NDC and was never considered for any scholarship after several applications to Getfund, yet big men belonging to the opposition by then were still granted scholarship to go and study. This is a very sad situation!” “You speak my mind bro, Commandante Akaabitono I have to defer my course at the University for 2 years under NDC, now am done with a degree and wish I could get a second degree but where is the money, and yet they expect me to come campaigning for them.”
