Nandom: EC Director declares his NPP affiliation in public

Isaac Akoto Darko-Nandom Municipal Electoral Commissioner

The Nandom Municipal Electoral Commissioner, Isaac Darko, has declared his support for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He made the declaration on Saturday while presiding over the acclamation of the Member of Parliament for the Nandom Constituency and the Minister of Interior, Ambrose Dery as the 2024 parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party in the Nandom Constituency.

The EC Director said he was tempted to say ‘Kuukurudu’ but has to play by the rules because he was a referee.

“You know for a moment as a referee when I picked the microphone I was tempted to say ‘kuukurudu’, but you know as a referee I have to play by the rules. So I pretend”, he stated with a loud laughter.

Meanwhile, The Director of Elections and ICT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Omane Boamah, has condemned the statement from the EC Director and called for his immediate resignation in a Facebook post.

“I have directed that a formal petition be presented to the Upper West Regional Director of the Electoral Commission for the toughest disciplinary action to be taken against this NPP man pretending as an EC official. Simultaneously, we will take the matter up with the Chairperson of the EC in Accra.”

“We will not sit unconcerned as the NPP destroys the economy and the livelihoods of Ghanaians and still hopes to win elections 2024 because of their reliance on SOME biased EC officials,” he said.
