The Wa East District Police Command has launched an investigation into an attack on livestock belonging to local businessman Fuseini Ahmed at Duccie Jagaaje Kura. The incident, which occurred on January 28, 2026, involved armed gunmen ambushing a herd of cattle, resulting in the death of two animals and injuring 24 others.

Confirming the incident to Info Radio, District Chief Executive and Chairman of the District Security Council (DISEC), Adamu Sayibu, indicated that police have already begun probing the circumstances surrounding the attack. He disclosed that some suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident, and a firearm was recovered. Nonetheless, Mr. Sayibu noted that the suspects have been granted bail as investigations continue.
The attack underscores a broader pattern of livestock-related disputes that have recently exacerbated tensions within the district. Mr. Sayibu explained that the district has experienced intermittent conflicts between Fulbe herdsmen and indigenous communities, often linked to grazing rights, cattle destroying farmers produce and land-use disagreements. In response, the District Assembly has enacted co-existence bye-laws aimed at fostering harmony between the groups. He expressed optimism that the full implementation of these regulations will significantly reduce conflicts and promote peaceful coexistence.
The DCE also called on residents to exercise restraint and avoid taking the law into their own hands. He emphasized the importance of channeling grievances through proper law enforcement channels to maintain peace and security in the district, urging collective responsibility from all residents to uphold stability in Wa East.
