A former Assembly Member for the Jagluu Electoral Area in the Wa West District, Mr. Bomaal John, has voiced serious concerns over the escalating destruction of farmlands caused by roaming cattle in the area. In an interview with Info Radio Martin Sunti, he highlighted the ongoing plight of farmers, who are suffering significant losses as cattle stray into their fields, damaging crops and, in some cases, invading homes to kill fowl and break eggs.
Mr. Bomaal called on cattle owners to ensure their herdsmen properly manage and control their animals to prevent further harm. He also urged traditional authorities and relevant stakeholders to implement measures that would better protect farmers and secure their livelihoods amidst the growing menace.
Madam Lien Goor-eow, a female farmer, expressed that women farmers are particularly hard-hit by the cattle incursions. She emphasized the urgent need for intervention to safeguard their farms and produce.
Some residents shared their frustrations, revealing that they are considering selling their fowls to support their children's education, underscoring the economic toll of the ongoing problem.
The community calls for immediate action to address the cattle encroachment and protect the livelihoods of local farmers.
