Lawra MP to set up Educational Trust Fund to support brilliant but needy students


The Member of Parliament for Lawra constituency, Mr. Bede A. Ziedeng has begun processes to set up an educational fund to support brilliant but needy students in the Lawra constituency.


This was disclosed by the MP during the first general meeting of the Lawra Municipal Assembly held on July 21, 2022 in which he said that a company has been registered to manage the fund.


He was optimistic that a Governing Body of the fund – Lawra Constituency Education Support Fund – would be constituted and appeal for fund launched to make it functional.


Mr Ziedeng, however, said that even before the fund is set up, some urgent and pathetic requests were made on him which he had to find a stop gap solution to.


Among these solutions, he disclosed that he supported 160 students by donating GHc1,000 to each student to pay their school fees which amounts to a tune of GHc160,000.00.


The beneficiaries included 108 males and 52 males across various levels of tertiary education.

The MP also indicated his relief package worth GHc11,5000.00 offered to the support a fire disaster which occurred at Brifor Senior High School that affected the girls dormitory, destroy both public and personal belongs.


“This package included chop box, foods items such as gari, sugar, rice, oil and other assorted items and some ceiling fans for the temporary accommodation they relocated to,” the MP said.


He made similar donation to the Lawra Senior High School which also affected by a rainstorm disaster in which the girls dormitory was ripped off and the belongings of students were destroyed.


“I reached out to them by donating 100 mattresses to them valued at Eighteen Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc18, 000.00.”


He also provided mathematical sets as well as funded the feeding of Junior High School students in the constituency who participated in the last year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination.


The Lawra MP also supported the Municipal Education Directorate with office chairs, projectors and a Public Addressing systems to a tune of Twelve Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc12, 000.00).
