Interior minister assures curtailing ritual killings in Wa

Mr Ambrose Dery, Minister of the Interior

Mr Ambrose Dery, the Minister of the Interior has assured the chiefs and people of Wa that the security agencies have taken full charge to bring finality to the killing and adaption of people in the town.

He said the police service was in control of the situation and that investigations into the incidents were ongoing to unravel the perpetrators of the acts to bring them to book.

Mr Dery said this when he called on the Paramount Chief of the Wala Traditional Area, Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, on Monday during his visit to the region.

He, on behalf of the government and the people of Ghana, expressed condolences to the families of the victims of the killings.

“The Ghana Police Service is in control of the situation, and they led by the IGP will investigate whatever has happened in the past and all I am assuring the Wa Naa is that the security agencies are so far up to the task and we believe and we support them to do their work”, he explained.

Mr Dery also admonished the people not to usurp the role of the police by meting out instant justice to suspects but to report any information to police to act appropriately to help fight against the menace of serial killings and missing people in Wa.

The minister further assured the people that his outfit was committed to strengthening the human resource and logistical capacity of the security agencies in the region to help improve the security situation in the region.

Naa Pelpuo said the chiefs and people of Wa have taken note of the assurances of the minister that they would do what it takes to unravel the mystery behind the killings in the municipality.

Wa Naa said it was unfortunate that his subjects would be going through a series of nightmares and unrest because of the heinous criminality, and hoped the perpetrators of the heinous crimes are found and brought to book.

“Over the past few weeks the people of Wa have not known peace and it is really unfortunate that the people will be going through such.

“It will be heartwarming to all the people of Wa to hear that the perpetrators of these heinous crimes against innocent lives here have been found and actually taken through due process”, Naa Pelpuo said.
