Heavy Rainstorm Causes Havoc in Bussei

Heavy rainfall accompanied by windstorms caused great damage in the Bussie community located in the Daffiama-Bussei-Issa district.

The incident happened on the night of Wednesday, March 3, 2024, and resulted in the displacement of many people from the community.

Mr Prosper Maaledoma, the assembly member of the Bussei West Electoral Area, revealed to Info Radio that the storm destroyed buildings, power poles, worship centres, schools and commercial centres.

He attributed the incident to deforestation in the area and called on authorities to provide urgent support to the community to help them overcome the challenges caused by the storm.

According to Kelvin Savaali, the District Director for the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), over 65 houses were affected by the storm.

The areas affected include Chabah, Tuori, and Owlo communities, all in the district. Mr Savaali mentioned that they have recorded the damages and will forward them to the regional office.

Mr Savaali also confirmed that there were no casualties recorded in the incident. He cautioned the public to expect more rainstorms this year.

The District Chief Executive and NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Daffiama Bussie Issa, Nadi Imoro Sanda, visited the community to meet with the victims of the rainstorm disaster. He pledged the government's support for the victims.
