The residents of Guo, a farming community with a population exceeding 7,000 residents in the Nandom Municiplaity of the Upper West Region, are raising serious concerns over the inadequate staffing levels in their local schools, which are adversely affecting the quality of education. In an exclusive interview with Info Radio, Hon. Tengfah Bombie Kennedy, the Assemblyman for Guo Electoral Area, highlighted the pressing issues facing the area’s educational institutions.

Hon. Kennedy revealed that despite the sizable population, Guo has only three basic schools and the Guo Technical/Vocational Institute, a member of the TVET network. He expressed concern that these institutions are struggling to meet educational demands due to critical staffing shortages and infrastructural challenges.

“The teacher-to-pupil ratio in our schools is unacceptably high, which hampers effective teaching and learning,” Hon. Kennedy stated. He provided specific figures, noting that Guo Daycare/KG has only one teacher, Primary A and B each have three teachers, the Junior High School (JHS) has four teachers, and the Guo TVET School also employs only four teachers.

The Assemblyman emphasized that both young children in early education and students pursuing vocational training are being impacted by these deficiencies. He called on government authorities to intervene promptly, providing the necessary resources and facilities to elevate the standard of education in Guo.

“Our community is eagerly waiting for support from the government to address these challenges and ensure our children receive quality education that can empower them for the future,” Hon. Kennedy concluded.

Guo residents remain hopeful that increased attention and investment will soon arrive to transform Guo’s educational landscape and provide brighter prospects for its youth.
