Residents of Gombile in the Dabo Electoral Area have appealed to the Wa West District Assembly to address critical challenges affecting healthcare delivery and livelihoods in the community.
According to residents, a newly constructed health facility completed and handed over last year remains non-operational. Although a nurse was initially assigned to the facility, the lack of essential medical equipment led to the withdrawal of the health worker, leaving the community without access to basic healthcare services.
Speaking to Info Radio, a resident, Charles Dassah, said the situation has forced community members to travel long distances to access medical care, exposing them to significant health risks.
In addition to healthcare concerns, women in the community are calling for support to improve their economic conditions through alternative livelihood opportunities.
They explained that, aside from farming, charcoal production had been a major source of income. However, widespread depletion of trees in the area has made this activity unsustainable.
Another resident, Charles Mama, urged authorities and development partners to assist women in transitioning to other income-generating ventures. She noted that such support would help improve household incomes and reduce economic hardship in the community.
