Ghana Red Cross, 3 others organize school outreach in Wa


Pupils of Adabiyat Islamic Basic School, Wa and event organizers in euphoria

Four establishments in Upper West have organized school outreach on basic life skills, entrepreneurial development, adolescent reproductive health and basic ICT skills in Wa to mark National Volunteers Day also Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day.


The four establishments namely; Ghana Red Cross Society, Mara Foods, Noni Hub and Ghana Think Foundation held the engagement with pupils of Adabiyat Islamic School on Tuesday, September 21, 2021.


Speaking at the outreach, the Regional Manager of Ghana Red Cross, Jeremiah Afako said they have gone out of their way to volunteer their services in basic life skills, guidance and counseling and basic first aid skills to the pupils and for that matter, the society.

The Manager carefully took participants through basic first aid skills that they could perform wherever a casualty may occur.


The participants were trained on saving a drowning or choking person and also the performance of Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on a casualty who goes unconscious.


The Executive Director of Beautiful Smiles Project and CEO of Mara Foods and Mara Closets, Maria Johana Yuorpor, who took participants through entrepreneurial skills development, encouraged the young pupils to inculcate the habit of learning to become entrepreneurs.

She encouraged them to write down their entrepreneurial ideas for future advancement.


Nasihat Isshak, a midwife with the Wa Adolescent Health Centre, took the young girls through menstrual hygiene and personal care skills.


She encouraged the young girls to abstain from premarital sex to avoid unwanted and teenage pregnancies.


The pupils drawn from Primary 3 to Primary 6 and numbering over 200, sharing their experiences and knowledge with Info Radio, expressed gratitude to the organizations for the outreach extended to them.


They said the trainings given to them are very useful and could come at no better time than these formative ages of theirs.
