Drivers urged to observe road traffic regulations

The Manager of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) in the Upper West Region, Mr Eugene K Tawiah, has emphasized the importance of adhering to road traffic regulations, particularly for vehicle users.

In an interview with Info Radio, Mr Tawiah stressed that drivers and riders must ensure that all their necessary documents, including driving license, helmet, insurance of the vehicle, and registration document, are valid before they hit the road.

He said “anybody who rides on the road have the right. The right is the licenses that give you the legal right to ride.”

“Therefore, if they [Police] asked you, they want to be sure because they want to eliminate those unlicensed riders. So when they ask you, you only produce the license,” he added.

Mr Tawia noted that it is not only license that a driver or rider must possess but also registration of the vehicle or motorbike and active insurance.

He further mentioned that continues public education is needed for the general public to ensure proper use of the roads.

“After 18 years and above before you qualify to be given a license. Our system has been design in such a way that even if you are not 18 years the system will not accept it.”

“The first stage you come for a learner license. The learner license will be given to you to enable you learn. A learner must have an Instructor and the Instructor must have at least two years’ experience,” he added.
