DHLTU Admits 17 Students With Disabilities for First Time

The Vice Chancellor of Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University (DHLTU), Prof Hamidatu Dramani, has announced that the institution has admitted 17 persons with disabilities (PWDs) for the first time in its history.

Delivering her address at the university’s 2025–2026 matriculation ceremony, she said the admissions followed “inclusive and far-reaching drives” designed to attract applicants from varied social, cultural, geographical, and economic backgrounds. According to her, the strategy reflects the university’s strengthened commitment to equality, diversity, and equal opportunity.

She noted that the newly admitted “differently-abled” students will pursue various academic programs and will benefit fully from government policies supporting free tertiary education and learners with disabilities. The development, she stressed, signals the institution’s determination to build an academic environment where qualified students can pursue their aspirations regardless of physical, sensory, or learning differences.

Out of a total of 2,575 applicants, 1,967 candidates were offered admission into the University’s various M.Tech/M.Sc., B.Tech/B.Sc., HND and Certificate programmes, representing an overall admission rate of approximately 76.4%.

The Vice Chancellor also disclosed that admissions increased by 17 percent compared with the previous academic year, attributing the rise to the introduction of new market-responsive academic programs and growing public confidence in the university’s academic offerings and reputation.

She added that 906 newly admitted Level 100 students have already enrolled under the government’s “no-fee-stress” policy, while documentation for others is still being processed.

Emphasising standards of conduct, Prof. Hamidatu reminded students that discipline remains central to the institution’s culture, warning that ignorance of university regulations will not be accepted as an excuse. She urged new students to uphold the institution’s reputation through integrity and good character.

The university leadership further indicated that as access expands, authorities are also working to upgrade infrastructure to meet rising enrollment and ensure a safe, conducive learning environment for all students.
