DBI: Elderly people excluded from LEAP

Residents of Kpare-Jinpensi in the Chala electoral area of the Daffiama-Bussei-Issa (DBI) district have lamented about the exclusion of some elderly persons in the community from the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty Program (LEAP).

Speaking to Info Radio in the community, Mrs Nafisa Fusieni noted that many elderly people in the community are not benefiting from the program.

She added that many people with disabilities have been excluded from the program.

She indicated that she has sent their names to the social welfare department but they are yet to get a response from them. She also laments inconsistent payment of the money to the beneficial.

“Many elderly people in our community who were supposed to be part of the program have been excluded. In the past, we used to receive the funds six times a year, but that is not the case anymore," she explained.

Mohammed Wanye, a visually impaired, who was the 2023 best physically challenged farmer in the district has lamented that they travelled to Wa for registration but all was in vain.

"When you go back, please pass along this information to the chairman, Regional Minister, and DCE. We are in dire need of their assistance, as we are currently suffering. I was among the group that went to Wa to register for the program, but we have yet to see any benefits."
