Mr Jacob Domekakpier Dery, the Lawra Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has indicated that the construction of a State-of-the-art Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) school in Lawra Municipality has commenced steadily in Tolibri in the municipality.
The Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, cut the sod for the construction of the first batch of the State-of-the-art TVET school across the country in the Ashanti Region last month.
The MCE, in his address to the Lawra Municipal Assembly during the assembly's first meeting for the year 2022 last Thursday, said the contractor in charge of the project in the municipality had so far constructed two boreholes at the site with mobilization ongoing.
Mr Dery said the Assembly, with the support of the Assembly Member for the Tolibri Electoral Area, Mr Kuuridong Alexis, worked tirelessly to surmount the challenges associated with the land earmarked for the project before the contractor could go on site.
Talking about other interventions in the sector, the MCE said the assembly had received 200 dual desks from the Ministry of Local Government for onward distribution to the needy basic schools in the municipality.
On Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Mr Dery observed that it had been one of the priority areas of the assembly with much investment going into the sector which had led to the Municipality attaining 84 per cent water coverage.
He said the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr Bede Ziedeng also supported in the sector with the drilling of boreholes through donor funds and the MP Common Fund.
On Agriculture, the MCE explained that the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) fertilizers in the municipality were woefully inadequate saying, “The ten input dealers selected as agents to supply subsidized fertilizer have not lived up to expectation.”
Mr Dery, therefore, said as part of efforts to make the inputs available to the smallholder farmers in the municipality, his outfit had “contacted a fertilizer dealer in the Sissala belt to bring some of the subsidized fertilizer to the municipality for the benefit of our farmers.”
