Chief of Tampaala urges support for farmers in his community

The Chief of Tampaala in the Jirapa Municipality, Naa Phillip Tengani Buo-Dery II, has expressed concerns over the increasing difficulties faced by farmers in his community due to a lack of access to essential farm inputs.

In an interview with Info Radio, the chief emphasized that the absence of basic agricultural supplies—such as seeds, fertilizers, and farming tools—has significantly impacted crop yields in the area, deepening the economic hardships experienced by farmers and their families.

“This problem is affecting not just the farmers but the entire electoral area. If nothing is done soon, we risk a major decline in agricultural productivity, which could threaten food security and the overall economic stability of the community,” Naa Buo-Dery II stated.

The chief also raised alarm over challenges in livestock rearing, which is a key source of livelihood in the Tampaala community. He noted that many livestock farmers are losing animals to disease due to the lack of veterinary services and technical training.

Adding to the concern is the absence of an Agricultural Extension Officer in the area. Without expert guidance and access to modern farming techniques, local farmers are left to rely on outdated practices, limiting their ability to improve yields or manage livestock health effectively.

Mr Bernard Suglo, the Assemblyman for Tampaala echoed the chief’s concerns. He confirmed that both crop and livestock farmers are battling mounting challenges, citing in particular the limited availability of fertilizer and the critical shortage of extension services.

“Farming is the backbone of our community, yet our farmers are left without the resources or support they need. We urgently call on the government and relevant agricultural agencies to intervene,” Mr Suglo appealed.

Community leaders are now urging the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and other stakeholders to address the pressing needs of the Tampaala farming population.

They stress that improved support systems, including the appointment of an Agricultural Extension Officer and supply of vital inputs, are essential to revitalizing agriculture in the area and securing livelihoods.
