The Catholic Youth of Wa marked the close of the 2025 liturgical year with a vibrant diocesan-wide celebration held at Funsi Parish in the Tumu Deanery. Led by the Diocesan Youth Council, the event attracted 184 youth representatives from 22 reporting parishes, students from Funsi Senior High School, 16 youth chaplains, and members of the religious community.
During the Eucharistic celebration, The Bishop of Wa, Most Rev. Francis Bomansaa M.Afr., delivered a compelling message urging the youth to prioritize education and resist harmful societal influences. He expressed concern over the increasing trend of young people abandoning school to engage in illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey. Bishop Bomansaa warned that rising dropout rates threaten not only the future of individual youths but also the development of the entire community.
“Those who forgo education risk being ‘enslaved by the educated,’” he emphasized, underscoring that schooling remains a vital tool for empowerment and sustainable growth. The bishop called on the youth to remain steadfast in their studies, reject distractions like galamsey, and work diligently toward building a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
Further addressing pressing social issues, Bishop Bomansaa cautioned against the rising prevalence of drug abuse among young people, specifically targeting the misuse of “Red Red,” a form of Tramadol reportedly popular among youth circles. He warned that such drugs can have devastating effects, destroying lives, hindering future opportunities, and stalling community progress.

The bishop urged the youth to make responsible choices, reject drug misuse, and stay focused on personal and communal development. The event concluded with prayers and reflections on the importance of discipline, faith, and education in shaping a prosperous future.
As the Catholic community in Wa celebrates this milestone, the message remains clear: dedication to education and a drug-free lifestyle are essential for empowering the youth and fostering sustainable growth within the region.
