Busa irrigation dam earmarked for renovation, projected to benefit over 6000 farmers

Busa community irrigation dam in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region has been earmarked for rehabilitation under an Agricultural Water Management Project (AWMP).

The AWMP is a five-year project funded by European Union Delegation to Ghana and French Government through Agency Francaise De Development (AFD).

The rehabilitation forms part of the European Union Ghana Agriculture program (EU-GAP).

Its objective is to increase agricultural incomes and promote inclusive, climate-resilient and sustainable economic growth in rural communities in the program area by 2026.

According to Mr Christophe Cottet, Country Director of Agency Francaise De Development (AFD), the rehabilitation will benefit over 6,000 farmers in the area.

In an interview with Info Radio Mr Cottet, said the dam will be reshaped and provide clean water to farmers instead of them using dugout water and water their plantations.

Engineer Stephen Maclean, Project Manager of the Agriculture Water Management Project, said the interventions by the project will be the repair of canals and drains of the dam.

He indicated that the rehabilitation is expected to start in 2024 and is expected to complete within twelve Months.

Mr Abu Ahmed, a farmer from the community indicated that the interventions by the AWMP rehabilitation of the dam will boost their irrigation farming and also serve for domestic purposes.
