The Upper West Regional police command say, they have arrested a prime suspect linked to the notorious serial murders that have gripped Wa since 2021 . The suspect, identified as Sherif Abdulai, a 30-year-old cobbler and an ex-convict from Dondoli, a suburb of Wa, has reportedly confessed to killing 15 victims across Wa, Banda, and Bole, according to the police.
The Upper West Regional Police Commander ACP Yiribaare Francis announced the arrest during a briefing on Wednesday, revealing that Abdulai’s arrest marks a significant step in unraveling the chilling series of murders that have haunted the region.
According to police reports, Abdulai was apprehended following intensive investigations and surveillance. During his arrest, authorities recovered several items linked to the crimes, including a mobile phone, a solar-powered radio set, and a bicycle believed to belong to his latest victim, Yahaya Issah, a night security man at Wa Dobile.
The police disclosed that Abdulai has admitted to the killings, which have left the community in fear. Authorities are currently conducting further investigations to gather more evidence and prepare for prosecution.
