Residents of Balazu , a farming community in the Wa East District of the Upper West Region of Ghana have received a new borehole, a development hailed as a significant milestone in addressing their long-standing water scarcity. The project was facilitated by Hon. Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, the Member of Parliament for the area, following persistent appeals from the community.

During the official handover ceremony of the borehole facility, MP Jasaw emphasized the hardships faced by the residents of Balazu and neighboring Deriyiri, noting that the communities had endured years of limited access to clean, potable water. He explained that the communities had relied on a single borehole, which was often subjected to heavy pressure and frequent breakdowns, disrupting access to water for families.

"Over the years, our people had to contend with sharing a single borehole that could not withstand the demand, leading to constant repairs," Hon. Jasaw stated. "Residents were compelled to fetch water from distant streams and rivers, often sharing with animals, which posed serious health risks. Today, we have taken a step forward with the official handover of this new borehole."

The MP urged community members to take good care of the facility to ensure its sustainability and continued service.

Residents expressed heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Jasaw for responding to their long-standing plight. They recounted the challenges faced due to the reliance on a single, overused borehole, which frequently broke down. Many explained that they often resorted to fetching water from streams, ponds, and rivers, exposing themselves ,particularly children, to waterborne diseases and infections.

Mr. Wanye Thomas, a resident of Balazu, highlighted the health risks associated with their previous water sources, stating, "Our community relied on streams and rivers for drinking water, which put our children at great risk of infections. This new borehole will significantly improve our health and living conditions."
