Azumah Resources Gh. Ltd Fosters Unity in Communities with Cycling Competition

Azumah Resources Ghana Limited, a mineral exploration company in the Upper West Region, has at the weekend, organised cycling competition among some communities in the Wa East District to help foster unity and collaboration between the company and the resident.
The Chaggu, Busah, Chaggu-Paala, Bulenga, Danyao-Kora and Gyankori communities participated in the maiden cycling competition in the district which was code-named: Tour de Julie”, to consolidate the bonds between the company and the communities they worked in.
Mr Solomon Dery, the Community Relation Officer (CRO) of Azumah Resources Gh. Ltd, in an address at the climax of the competition at Manweh, said the cycling event started in the Nadowli-Kaleo District about seven years ago hence their decision to replicate it in the Wa East District.

All the 27 participants took home Azumah Resources branded T-shirts each and either a table-top refrigerator, flat screen led televisions, bicycles, or a knapsack sprayers.
The Chagu community emerged winner and was giving a cash prize of Gh¢1500.00, first runner-up, Busah community, Gh¢ 1000.00 and second runner-up, Chagu-Paala also took away Gh¢500.00.
Mr Dery acknowledged the important role sport played in uniting factions which had informed the the decision of the company to cease that opportunity to draw closer to the communities.
According to him that would enable them identify the need of the communities and chart appropriate way of meeting those needs to help improve the livelihood of the people in the communities.
Mr Dery indicated that the company had discovered gold mineral deposits in the Upper West Region and that plans are far advanced to start mine constriction soon.
He indicated that the company had been prospecting for gold over the years but that they had discovered the deposits at Julie in the Wa East District and in Charikpong in the Nadowli-Kaleo District.
“All these deposits are mendable to surface mining. Fortunately for us we have been granted all the relevant permits and parliamentary ratification to commence mines construction.
“The aim of Azumah Resources Ltd therefor is to establish commercial mines that will employ as much as possible the local workforce for the area. We are going to have some benefits from the project when we commence construction and possible mining”, Mr Dery Explained.
Mr Suglo Nuurideen, the Assembly Member for Bulenga Electoral Area, and representative of the Wa East District Assembly, commended the Azumah Resources Gh. Ltd for taking the initiative to promote unity between the company and the communities they worked in.
He noted that information reaching the assembly indicated that Azumah Resources Gh. Ltd had stationed military officers in the communities they worked which was causing problems between the company those communities.
He said the assembly was aware of the operations of the company in the region and was hopeful that when the company commenced commercial mining, the communities would reap the needed benefits.
“When you are to mine at any place, there are some documents that you must have, to the best our knowledge, Azumah Resources Ltd has those documents, so I am urging our communities to support them so that we can all benefit from their activities”, Mr Nuurideen explained.
The Wa East District Health Directorate sensitized the traditional authorities within the district as well as score of people were present to grace the event and to the importance of regular exercise in living a healthy live.
The company is set to organise same community cycling event in the Nadowli-Kaleo on Saturday 18th December, 2021.
