Age remains the most significant risk factor for prostate cancer, Acting Director of University Health Services at the University for Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS), Dr (Pharm) Maxwell Mwinzumah Sampson, has said.

Speaking to Info Radio during a , Dr Sampson described prostate cancer as a major health challenge for men. While the disease’s causes are complex, he said the likelihood of developing it increases sharply with age, and many cases are diagnosed in older men.

He added that lifestyle choices, including diet, and environmental factors may also contribute to the risk.

Dr Sampson urged men to prioritise regular medical check-ups, noting that prostate cancer may not cause symptoms in its early stages. He encouraged men to discuss screening with healthcare providers and agree on a schedule suited to their age and personal risk factors, including family history.

Early screening, he said, can help identify changes when they are more treatable.R
