A New Era Begins as Hon. Stephen Yakubu Takes the Helm as Upper West Regional Minister


The Upper West Region recently witnessed a significant change in its regional leadership as Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, the former Upper West Regional Minister, handed over his responsibilities to Hon. Stephen Yakubu, the newly appointed Regional Minister and former Upper East Regional Minister. This transition marks a new chapter in the region's political and administrative journey.

The handover ceremony was held in Wa on Tuesday in a solemn and dignified atmosphere, reflecting the gravity of the occasion and the importance of the roles these individuals play in the lives of the people they serve. In his farewell address, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih expressed gratitude to the people of the Upper West Region for the opportunity to serve them during his tenure. He highlighted the achievements of his administration, including significant strides in education, healthcare, and infrastructure development. Dr. Hafiz Bin Salah heads to the Upper East Region to serve as its regional minister.

Dr. Bin Salih also emphasized the importance of continuity and cooperation between the outgoing and incoming administrations. He urged Hon. Stephen Yakubu to build on the successes of the past and address the region's pressing challenges. In response, Hon. Stephen Yakubu expressed his deep sense of responsibility and commitment to the people of the Upper West Region.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Yakubu acknowledged the challenges that lay ahead and pledged to work tirelessly to improve the lives of the people in the region. He also extended his gratitude to Dr. Bin Salih for his leadership and dedication during his time in office.

The event was attended by various dignitaries, including heads of regional departments and agencies , traditional leaders, and representatives from civil society organizations. Their presence underscored the significance of the transition and the collective responsibility to ensure a smooth and successful handover.

As the new Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Stephen Yakubu faces the task of continuing to develop the region and addressing the needs of its people.

The New Upper West Regional minister Honorable Stephen Yakubu is a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He was the former Upper East Regional Minister before reshuffled to the Upper West Region.

He contested for the Binduri seat on the ticket of the NPP. He was a member of the 5th Parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana. He obtained 9,103 votes out of the 18,050 valid votes cast which amounts to 50.43% of all valid votes,.

Stephen Yakubu was born on May 25, 1966, at Gotisaliga-Binduri in the Upper East Region. He obtained a BSc in Planning from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and a Postgraduate diploma in Information Systems from Thames Valley University Slough, UK.

He is married with two children. He is a Christian and worships with an Adventist church.
