The women of Gbache, a small community in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region, have made a passionate appeal to the government and financial institutions to provide them with low-interest loans.
This financial support would enable them to establish small businesses, empowering them to improve their economic status and contribute to the growth of their community.
According to Madam Muniratu Imoru, one of the women, "We are eager to start our own businesses, but lack of capital is a major constraint. With low-interest loans, we can purchase equipment, raw materials, and other essential items to establish sustainable businesses."
She mentioned that women in the community are eager to venture into various businesses, including shea butter processing, soap making, and agriculture. They believe that these businesses will not only generate income for themselves but also create jobs for other women and youth in the community.
"We want to be financially independent and support our families. With our own businesses, we can provide for our children's education, healthcare, and other basic needs," Madam Muniratu stated.
She noted that "When women are economically empowered, they can make a significant impact on their families and communities. We are confident that with the support of the government and financial institutions, we can make a real difference in Gbache."
The women's appeal has been echoed by the men in the community, who believe that supporting women's economic empowerment is crucial for community development.
Mr Alhassan Seidu mentioned that with financial support from the government or nongovernmental organizations, the women can go into animal rearing to support their families.
“With the support of the government and financial institutions, women can overcome the challenges of poverty and unemployment, and build a brighter future for themselves and their families.
