Women in Nadowli-Kaleo Seek Support to Break Poverty Cycle
Women’s groups in Duong , a farming community within the Nadowli-Kaleo District of the Upper West Region are appealing to local authorities, NGOs, and benevolent individuals for financial support to establish small-scale businesses that can sustain their families.
The call for assistance underscores the urgent need for economic empowerment among women in Duong who are currently reliant on seasonal subsistence farming.
Speaking exclusively to Info Radio during a community engagement , Madam Afizatu Sunkari, a leader of one of the women’s groups, highlighted the women’s strong commitment and energy to work but emphasized their lack of access to capital and tools necessary to start viable businesses. “We are ready to work and eager to improve our lives, but without the financial resources, we are left dependent on seasonal farming, which is not enough to support our families,” she said.
Another woman in the community ,Madam Linda Kaatore, expressed her willingness to work and urged the Nadowli-Kaleo District Assembly, the Department of Gender, and local philanthropists to intervene by providing startup capital and technical training. She emphasized that such support would enable women to generate income, support their families, and afford their children’s education.
The women’s groups are calling on stakeholders to recognize their potential and invest in their entrepreneurial ventures as a means to foster sustainable development and reduce poverty in the region.
