WEE-North project trains over 500 young women on practical trades

The WEE-North project has trained over 500 young women aged 18-35, on practical trades with over 300 women in cohort three currently under training.

The five-year project, implemented by the Alinea Foundation, a Non-governmental Organisation, with funding from the Global Affairs Canada to empower young women through practical trades and personal development training to enable them land decent jobs in industrial trades.

The trade areas include electrical installation, bricklaying and tiling, carpentry, welding plumbing, and small engine repair.

The training institutions are the Dr. Hilla Liman Technical Institute, Wa Technical institute and St. Basilides Technical Institute.

Madam Humu-Hani Adam, Gender Equality Promotion Coordinator of the Alinea Foundation said this in a letter copied to Info Radio on the launch of the WA WEE-Group, a group of young women who have successfully gone through the training and completed their attachments.

“WEE-Groups comprise young women in industrial trades who together engage in business, savings and loans, training, leadership and advocacy, and social support.

The groups are pacesetters for promoting women's economic empowerment in northern Ghana through industrial trades”, the letter said.

A total of 55 WEE-Groups are expected to be formed in the next few months, with the Wa WEE Group being a priority.
