Wa West: Residents of Zanko Paani trek several kilometers in search of potable water

Residents of Zanko Paani a community, in the Guo Electoral Area of the Wa West District, have to trek several kilometers in search of potable water for domestic purposes. According to the residents, who spoke to info radio, their only source of water is a pond, which is several kilometers away from the community. Narrating their ordeal to info radio, the people revealed, that the only borehole in the community that provides the community with potable water had broken down due to excessive pressure on the facility, compelling them to share the same water source with all kinds of animals which makes the water unwholesome for domestic consumption. “The only borehole which serves as our source of potable water had broken down and needs to be repaired.” One of the residents narrated

Mr. Iddrisu Daluo, a resident of the community has revealed, that they have been contributing almost every month to fix the borehole which has posed unnecessary financial pressure to the people. According to him, they were in need of about Six Hundred Ghana Cedis (GHC 600.00) to enable them fix the borehole for clean water. Mr. Iddrisu, however, noted that they are finding it difficult to mobilized funds to carry out the maintenance works on the borehole. ”We have been contributing every month for repairs of the only borehole that provides us with water worth drinking due to its perennial breakdown. For us to be able to repair this borehole, we need about six hundred Ghana Cedis”. Confirming the cry of the people, the Hon. Assembly Member for the Guo Electoral Area, Osman Adams recounted the steps he has taken so far to curb the situation. Hon Adams, revealed that he had written to Ghana Water Company limited and a Non-governmental Organization for support. The Hon Assembly Member and the people of Zanko are therefore appealing to duty bearers and NGOs to come to their aid by providing them with potable drinking water.
