Wa West DCE honours outstanding students, backs STEM education initiative

The District Chief Executive for Wa West, Richard Wulo, has honoured outstanding students in the Wechiau-Bao community as part of efforts to promote academic excellence and encourage pupils to take their education seriously.

The awards were presented to students who placed first to fifth in their respective classes. Prizes included school bags, exercise books, Soap and pomade. Special awards were also presented to students who excelled in Mathematics and other subjects. The Overall Best Student award was presented to Dery Filomina.

Mr Wulo said the initiative was aimed at motivating students to work hard academically while recognising parents for their continued support towards their children’s education. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote quality education and improve learning outcomes in the community.

The awards ceremony also coincided with the introduction of a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education initiative led by Professor Joseph Ofori-Dankwa. The programme seeks to equip pupils with practical skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and prepare them for future educational and career opportunities.

Community leaders, including the Parent-Teacher Association Chairman, Joseph Yirisoba, and Madam Yovila Pobiley, urged parents to make their children’s education a priority and support the successful implementation of the STEM programme.

They called for a collective effort among parents, community leaders and other stakeholders to ensure that every child benefits from the initiative.
