Wa: Residents welcome Green Ghana initiative, ready to go planting


Across-section of the people in Wa have welcome the governments initiative of tree planting called “Green Ghana Initiative” due to the importance of trees to mankind.


In an in interview with Info Radio, to find out how they are preparing for the day tomorrow, June 10, 2022.


Ghana introduced the Green Ghana Day initiative last year as part of efforts to improve on the vegetative cover of the environment. The programme is in its 2nd year.


They therefore indicate their readiness to participate in planting trees to protect the environment from climate change and environmental degradation.


The people said Green Ghana project should not be politicized because of the importance of trees to mankind.


They therefore urged each and every one to participate in planting than criticism politicians.


A visit to the Upper West Regional office of the Forestry Commission (FC), it was observed that Non-governmental organisations and institutions were coming to register for the trees to be planted tomorrow.


The Upper West Regional Manager has a target of about 600,000 trees to be planted on the Green Ghana Day.


The Lawra and Tumu Forests Districts are tasked to plant 200,000 and 250,000 trees respectively, while the regional office of the FC was tasked to plant the remaining 150,000 trees.


This year’s theme for the planting exercise is “Mobilizing for a Greener Future”.
