Commercial transport operators at Wa Main Lorry Station are urging authorities to undertake a comprehensive reconstruction of the Wa–Nadowli road, warning that its deteriorating condition cannot be addressed through routine pothole repairs.

Speaking to Info Radio, the Wa–Nadowli branch chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) said a contractor is currently patching potholes along the route. However, he argued that the work is inadequate, as deep gullies and broken asphalt continue to worsen under heavy traffic, leaving repairs short-lived.

The chairman said drivers are spending a growing share of their daily earnings on spare parts, suspension repairs and replacement tyres. Passengers, meanwhile, face uncomfortable journeys and longer travel times as drivers slow down to navigate damaged sections and protect their vehicles.

He appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Highways and the Department of Feeder Roads to review the current contract and consider upgrading the work from pothole patching to full re-gravelling or an asphalt overlay.

Without more substantial intervention, he warned, the road’s condition could place further strain on the local transport economy.
