Wa: Military brutality, Wa Naa sermons Military High Command

Armed military officers have brutalized some residents of Wa, the Upper West Regional capital, allegedly over a missing mobile phone.

The ghastly incident happened today Thursday, July 1, 2021 at late afternoon where men in uniform pounced civilians pommeling and molesting them on the town's streets.

This comes barely a week after soldiers opened fire on protesters at Ejura in the Ashanti Region, leading to the death of two people and injuries to four others.

Some eyewitnesses said the soldiers claimed they were searching for their stolen mobile phone.

They recounted how the officers who could not be immediately identified, stopped tricycles and brutalized particularly young men.

The Public Relations Officer of the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council, Cletus Awuni was also beaten by the officers.

A viral video on social media saw some residents being forced to lie in open gutters while being beaten.

Another victim, a pupil teacher, said he was accosted in front of his shop in town, forced to lie on the floor, and mercilessly beaten by the officers.

He said they poured hot water on him and continued to beat other persons in the town.

Meanwhile, Jinpenhi Naa Kadiri Ibrahim, secretary of the Overlord of the Wala Traditional Area, Wa-Naa Seidu Fuseini Pelpuo IV, has revealed that the Military High Command from Accra will be in the Wa-Naa’s palace tomorrow to apologize to His Majesty and the people of Wa over what he called “misbehavior and irresponsibility towards the public.”

Naa Kadiri made the revelation on his Facebook wall.
