A woman from a community near Jongfian in the Wa East District of the Upper West Region is still traumatized three weeks after she was attacked and sexually molested by suspected criminals.
Info Radio gathered that the victim was tied down by her attackers, sexually molested, and threatened to be killed.
According to her, the incident happened in the morning at about 7 a.m. when she was returning home from the Jongfian community, where she went to grind some grains.
She explained that she had gone to grind some grains in Jongfian, and while on her way back home, three people on a motorcycle stopped by her and asked her where she was coming from.
She stated that her attackers asked her to give them all her money. According to her, after handing over the money to them, the attackers tied her down and sexually assaulted her.
She was left in the sun throughout the day until about 10:00 p.m. at night, when a hunter spotted her tied down and then went to report to the community members who came to rescue her.
A staff member of the Jongfian CHPS Compound, Halilu Issah, speaking to Info Radio on the matter, said he heard about the incident at about 10:30 p.m. and mobilized some community members to visit the scene.
According to him, when they got to the scene, the woman was tied down, naked. They took her to the health facility for some emergency medical care.
While the victim suspects her attackers might be Fulani, the chief of Jongfian, Naa Kuli N-yituo, thinks otherwise.
He linked the incident to some disagreements over farmlands in the community. He added that there is no unity in the community.
Meanwhile, the Wa East District Police Commander said they are waiting for the medical forms to be submitted to them before they can take any action on the matter.
